Pigmentation

What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation refers to the coloring of the skin, which is determined by the amount and type of melanin produced by melanocytes. Various factors can cause pigmentation issues, leading to either hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin) or hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin).

Types of Hyperpigmentation include:

  • Melasma: Brown or gray-brown patches, often on the face, caused by hormonal changes or sun exposure.
  • Sun Spots: Also known as age spots or liver spots, these are small, darkened patches caused by prolonged sun exposure.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots that appear after an injury or inflammation of the skin, such as acne.
The Procedures

Types of Treatment

Chemical Peels

Use acids (glycolic, salicylic, lactic) to exfoliate the skin and reduce pigmentation.

Laser Treatments

Fractional Laser targets pigmentation and stimulates collagen production. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses light energy to target pigmented areas.

RF Microneedling

Creates micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen production, re-texturising the skin and reducing pigmentation.

Recovery & Care

Preventive Measures

1. Sun Protection: Use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to protect the skin from UV damage, which can worsen pigmentation.

2. Avoiding Triggers: Identify and avoid triggers that may cause pigmentation, such as certain medications or cosmetic products.

Note: For effective treatment, it is crucial to consult with a dermatologist. They can provide personalizsed recommendations based on your skin type and pigmentation issue and monitor your progress to ensure safe and effective results.
